Overview
Crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260m) on a roughly 4-hour drive, this excursion reaches Ouarzazate, gateway to the Sahara and Morocco's legendary film-making hub, often nicknamed the "Hollywood of Africa." Its ochre kasbahs and rammed-earth (pisé) architecture, set against a stark, sun-baked landscape, have drawn international film productions for decades.
Along the way, a stop at Aït Benhaddou, one of Morocco's most photographed UNESCO World Heritage sites and a filming location for Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, Game of Thrones and Babel, before continuing to Ouarzazate to explore its kasbahs and the still-active Atlas Corporation Studios, the largest film studios on the continent. This blend of dramatic mountain scenery, centuries-old earthen architecture and cinematic history makes Ouarzazate one of the most memorable full-day trips from Marrakech.
