Overview

About 2.5 to 3 hours from Marrakech, the Ouzoud Waterfalls are among Morocco's most spectacular natural sites: a series of cascades dropping over 100 meters through a dramatic red-rock gorge into the Oued el-Abid. The falls are framed by a century-old olive grove with gnarled, ancient trunks, home to a colony of Barbary macaques that roam freely and often come right up to visitors.

This full-day excursion combines scenic hiking trails, an optional traditional boat ride beneath the spray of the falls, and free time to explore the surrounding gorges, making it a favorite for nature lovers and photographers.

Best Time to Visit

Spring brings the fullest waterfalls and greenest scenery, when snowmelt and rainfall are at their peak. The site remains beautiful year-round, though water levels are lower towards the end of summer. Visiting early in the morning during summer also helps avoid both the midday heat and the crowds.

Tips

Comfortable shoes: the paths around the falls can be uneven and slippery, so sturdy, comfortable shoes are recommended.
Cash: bring cash for entrance fees and any purchases on site.
Sun protection: wear sunscreen and a hat, as shade is limited along parts of the hike.
Water: carry water to stay hydrated, especially in the warmer months.
